Getting Help & Contacting the Club
Who should I contact if I have a question or issue?
In most cases, your first point of contact should be:
- Your Team Manager (for team specific matters)
- Your Coach (for football or training matters)
If your question can’t be resolved at team level (or if you are not yet placed in a team) you can contact the Club directly.
For all registration matters, please contact the Registrar via email: registrar@rangersafc.com.au
If your query relates to member protection, discrimination, harassment or any other sensitive issue, please contact our Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) via email: mpio@rangersafc.com.au
Please do not contact the Hills Football Association directly – the Club will do so on your behalf if necessary.

The club communicates via:

- Club social media channels
Registrations
How do I register to play?
All players must register online via Play Football, Football Australia’s national registration system.
For more information see our Register page.
When do registrations open?
Registrations typically open in early January for the Winter season. An early bird discount may be offered for a limited time.
In 2026, registrations open on 1st January.
Which age group should my child be registered in?
Football age groups are based on the age a player turns during the calendar year.
For example:
- Under 6 (U6): for children turning 5 or 6 in that year, as it is the youngest age group
- Under 8 (U8): for children turning 8 in that year
- Under 10 (U10): for children turning 10 in that year
- Under 12 (U12): for children turning 12 in that year
This means a child may still be 7 when the season starts, but if they turn 8 at any point during the year, they register in Under 8. Age groups are set in line with Football Australia, Football NSW and Hills Football regulations. Generally, Play Football will only allow a player to select the correct age group based on their date of birth. If you are unsure or believe there is an issue, please contact the Club before registering.
What happens after I register?
Once registered:
- Your registration is reviewed by the Club
- You will receive information about Team Formation/Grading via email – you must attend your session as allocated to be placed in a team
- You will receive further season information once Team Formation is finalised
Can I register late?
Late registrations may be accepted if teams are not full and competition rules allow. Please contact the Club before registering late.
Fees, Discounts & Refunds
How much does registration cost?
Fees vary by age group and are published on the Register page each season.
What do registration fees include?
Your registration fee covers:
- Hills Football, Football NSW and Football Australia fees
- Player insurance
- Referees
- Ground and facility hire
- Coaching support and club administration costs
- Jerseys
What is your refund policy?
You may cancel your registration within 7 days, or prior to Team Formation/Grading (whichever occurs first) for a refund, less a $50 administration fee. After this period, no refunds will be issued. Once the season has started, you cannot cancel your registration.
Team Formation & Grading
Team Formation & Grading
Team Formation (sometimes also referred to as grading) is a pre-season process used to help the Club create well balanced teams.
We use the term Team Formation because it more accurately reflects what we are trying to achieve – forming teams made up of players of similar ability, who are complementary to one another, and who will have the most enjoyable and positive playing experience throughout the season.
The purpose of Team Formation is to group players with peers of a comparable skill level, so teams can be placed into appropriate divisions and compete against other teams of a similar standard. This approach supports player enjoyment, confidence and development.
Team Formation applies to all teams, regardless of the division they play in. It is not about ranking players or labelling teams as “strong” or “weak”, but about giving every player the best possible environment to enjoy their football.
How does Team Formation work?
Depending on the age group and number of registrations, the Club may run one or more Team Formation/Grading sessions. These sessions allow coaches and coordinators to observe players and form balanced teams.
When sessions are held, attendance is required, as it assists with appropriate team placement. If a player is unable to attend, parents should notify the Club so this can be taken into consideration.
Can players request to play with friends?
We understand the social side of football is important, especially in younger age groups, and we will try to accommodate friend requests where possible. However, placement cannot be guaranteed and must be balanced against the objectives of Team Formation.
Can my child play up an age group?
Requests to play up an age group are considered on a case-by-case basis and must comply with Hills Football and Football NSW regulations.
In general, approval is only granted in exceptional circumstances. This is most commonly for particularly talented players, where playing outside their standard age group is considered appropriate for their development and safety. Approval is not guaranteed.
In some cases, the Club may also request that a player play up an age group to assist with team numbers or team viability. In all cases, decisions are made with the player’s best interests, development and safety in mind.
Training & Matches
When do teams train?
Training days and times vary by age group and team. Most teams train on a single weeknight evening per week. Schedules are confirmed once teams are finalised.
Where is training held?
Training is held at our allocated home ground, Annangrove Park.
When are matches played?
Match days depend on the team and competition:
- Mixed teams generally play on Saturdays
- Female teams generally play on Sundays
- Over 30 Women, Over 45 Women and some Over 35 Men competitions play on Friday evenings
Kick-off times and fixtures are set by the association and published prior to each round.
What happens if it rains?
Always assume your match or training is going ahead unless you are told otherwise.
If a game is cancelled due to wet weather, teams will be notified via Dribl. If you do not receive a cancellation notification, your game is on.
Uniforms & Equipment
What uniform is required?
Players must wear the official Box Hill Rangers AFC playing strip (jersey, shorts and socks) for matches.
How do I purchase a uniform?
The jersey is provided by the club and must be returned at the end of each season. Shorts and socks can be purchased from our uniform supplier, Elite, using the ordering information provided at the start of the season.
What equipment does my child need?
Players must have:
- Football boots
- Shin pads
- A water bottle
The club provides training equipment.
Coaching & Volunteers
Who coaches the teams?
All coaches are volunteers – usually parents, relatives or friends – who are approved by the club. All coaches must meet Working With Children Check requirements. Coaching courses are offered and recommended for all. Coaching is a really rewarding way to get involved with the club.
Can parents help or volunteer?
Yes – the club relies heavily on volunteers. All families are expected to contribute at least 4 hours of volunteering per season, which can include roles such as:
- Canteen or barbecue duty
- Ground set-up or pack-up
- Event assistance
- Ground official
- Committee member
- Team coach or manager
Do team managers need experience?
No prior experience is required. The club provides guidance and support to all team managers.
Girls & Women’s Football
Do you offer female teams?
Yes! We actively support girls’ and women’s football and aim to offer girls‑only teams in all age groups provided by Hills Football, where numbers allow.
Can girls play in mixed teams?
Yes. Girls can play in mixed teams in all junior age groups. Girls are also eligible to dual register in both a mixed team and female team, paying the registration fee only once.
Behaviour, Safety & Insurance
What behaviour standards apply?
All players, parents, coaches and spectators must comply with the club’s Code of Conduct, as well as Hills Football, Football NSW and Football Australia policies.
Is my child insured?
Yes. All registered players are covered by Football Australia’s insurance program during approved football activities.
What should I do if my child is injured?
Please notify your Team Manager and seek appropriate medical attention. Insurance claim information can be provided by the club if required.
